Mr. Boxing of Calgary - Michael Short
Michael Short has been in the sport of professional boxing, in all capacities since 1980, having competed in the amateurs and pros and being coached by the legendary Archie Moore and living, training and sparring with Aaron 'The Hawk' Pryor.
To fully understand and be part of boxing, you must be a true fan of the sport and willing to endure the harsh realities that come with the industry. It is not a game. It is a lifestyle and, now in his fifties, Short has paid his dues gaining a wealth of knowledge with countless experiences.
In mid 2017 Michael Short was asked to be on Sportsnet 960 The Fan Combat Central with Peter Klein & G Ranna to discuss an upcoming match on Dekada Fight Night. The crew quickly realized that Michael had a wealth of knowledge in the sport of boxing and became a regular to provide listeners some great insight regarding the rest of the boxing world. Peter Klein proclaimed him as Mr. Boxing of Calgary and the name has stuck.
Boxing is making a major comeback around the world, with hot fights and stories that fans are starting to pay attention to. From Mayweather, Pacquiao, triple G and Joshua to our locals like Devin Reti, Albert Onolunose, Gwyn Lewis, Kandi Wyatt and Alvin Tam, who are making a major mark, including championships, on the boxing map of Canada and the world, short gives an insight like no other.

Dekada Fight Night Promoter/Match Maker
It is only natural that Mr. Boxing is still involved in the sport and one of his biggest roles is Promoter of Dekada Fight Night which has become the biggest and fastest growing boxing promotion in Western Canada giving way to numerous local fighters who are rising in the world rankings on the path to substantial championships. Something that has been lacking in the west.
Short is known for great match making, resulting in great battles that are both entertaining and tense for the fans. Matchmaking is a true art in the sport of boxing and requires a good eye for the dissection of each athlete's record and, more importantly, ring psychology and abilities. Many fighters have padded records and may seem dangerous on paper but there is a criteria in the formula that doesn't pay homage to the process. Short digs very deep when deciding on matches. It's not just the record but who said fighter has met on the path. Often, upside down records are more dangerous to an opponent because you know he or she obviously isn't afraid to fight and may have just been matched badly in their career.
The proof is in the pudding, or ring in this case. The majority of the fights on Dekada Fight Night are incredible.
Short is also know to be a crass individual who tells it to you how he feels. The truth can hurt and has resulted in certain individuals to dislike Mr. Boxing but, one thing is for sure; he will always give it to you straight, the good and the bad. The trick is to take the bad and grow from it.
